Project B: Graphic Translation

Had a lot of fun with this project. Candice thought it’d be different if I chose a tool as my object and I thought that would be a nice challenge so: challenge accepted. After some more brainstorming we thought of combining a saw with a comb and the company could be focused around mens grooming (which is ironic as I’m about the least groomed man in class, but no matter). Just makes my challenge more, uh, challenging. Crosscut is the type of saw used as the inspiration and I thought that would make a great name for a barber shop. Voilá - Crosscut Barber Shop.

These are the photos I found online and chose to use as the inspiration for the work.

Trace, trace, and more tracing.

Simplifying the image. Editing out the hard details.

Flushing out the idea.

Playing around with shapes and some early lock ups.

Type Specimen Sheet.
3 different lockups and exploring some type.
